Robin Ridge is a small winery near Keremeos with a focussed portfolio of well-made wines that are fairly priced. Gamay Noir, the humble grape of Beaujolais, has emerged as one of the signature varieties here. The winery’s 2008 Gamay won a silver medal at the Okanagan Wine Festival and a bronze in the Canadian Wine Awards. The 2009 is arguably a better vintage.
Don’t think of ordinary Beaujolais, which is light and fruity. The Robin Ridge Gamay has the weight of a Beaujolais Cru, with aromas and flavours of spicy black cherries. The wine has a generous, juicy palate and a rich and satisfying finish. This is a versatile wine that could be paired with almost every barbecue meal this summer, especially salmon and pork.
