Ever since Quails’ Gate began making rosé several years ago, this has become a great summertime favourite among many wine drinkers. The winery has it available not just in British Columbia but also in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
Winemaker Grant Stanley’s tricks for making a big, juicy rosé begin with allowing the crushed grapes to soak on their skins overnight, extracting both flavour and colour. The flavours are preserved through a long cold fermentation. One result is a wine with a vibrant colour that could grace jewellery and certainly looks great in the glass. It has aromas and flavours of strawberry, raspberry, rhubarb and red currant. The six grams of residual sugar balance the bright acidity that marks the 2010 vintage. The wine has a crisp, refreshing finish. This wine will pair with all sort of summer dishes from salads to barbecued salmon.
