This is the first wine released from Enrico Winery at Mill Bay on Vancouver Island. The newest island winery, it is owned by Victoria businessman Harry Smith. The winery’s tasting room on Telegraph Road is scheduled to open a few weeks before Christmas. The winery’s website will be live in a couple of weeks. Consumers will be able to get this wine and four reds due to be bottled in a few weeks.
There will be a buzz around this Pinot Grigio because it just won a silver medal in the British Columbia Wine Awards, an achievement that speaks both to the quality of the 2009 vintage on the island and to the skills of winemaker Sarah Cosman. The wine begins with an appealing, fruity aroma, leading to flavours of citrus and pears and perhaps green apples. The finish is tangy and refreshing, with the tartness one expects with Vancouver Island whites effectively balanced.
