The price is amazing considering how the wine was grown and made. The fruit comes from 24-year-old vines, still a rarity in the Okanagan where most vines are 12 years old at best. The maturity of the vines accounts for the good mineral backbone.  Forty-five percent of the wine was fermented in four-year-old French oak barrels and aged there for six months, undergoing battonage (lees stirring) for several months to broaden the mouthfeel. The remainder of the wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel. The object is to combine fresh, fruity flavours with the more complex flavours of the barrel portion. The wines were blended in December and bottled in May.

The result of all this attention to detail is a crisp white, with flavours of citrus, melon and apricot. The wine is built to age for several years but you will want to crack a bottle the next time you have seafood or poultry.
