The View is a relatively new winery in East Kelowna, so named because the vineyard has a spectacular view over the city and the valley. The planting of Pinotage here, about 10 acres, is believed to be the largest in the Okanagan, if not in Canada, of this signature South African red. The variety is here because one of the winery principals has a passion for South Africa. The current vineyard manager also is South African.
This is a tasty rosé, expressing flavours of strawberry and cranberry. It is a lively, refreshing wine, excellent for summertime drinking and, with its dry finish, suitable for many cuisines. It is also an accidental wine, which explains the name. In the 2009, the winemaker was distracted and filled the fermentation tank to the very top with crushed Pinotage grapes. That left no room for fermentation. The only solution was to bleed off juice to reduce the fill level of the tank. That juice was then fermented to produce this excellent rosé.
