Pacific Breeze is a self-described garagiste winery sourcing its grapes primarily in California. The winery is in New Westminster, tucked away on a commercial mall under the Skytrain line. It is a funky place but it is well worth visiting the tasting room, open every afternoon. It is also worth visiting during one of open houses advertised on the winery’s website. These guys know how to party.
This Cabernet Sauvignon absolutely swaggers, beginning with the name and the loud yellow label. It is a big, rich red, tasting of black currants, black cherries, plum, chocolate, coffee, with spice and liquorice flavours on the finish. The lush ripe tannins add to the length of this powerful and satisfying wine. If this wine came from one of the big names in California, you’d pay a lot more.
