Canoe Cove is the premium label from the Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery in Langley, referring to wines made from grapes grown in the Okanagan. The winery has a particularly fine source of Shiraz (as it prefers to call Syrah). One example several vintages ago picked up a string of awards including the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence. The 2006 vintage, just coming into the market, will surely rack up more awards.
This wine has power. Dark in colour, its rich aromas and flavours of plum and liquorice are framed with classic notes of pepper that one often finds in south Okanagan Shiraz. The big, ripe tannins give the wine a satisfying richness and a long finish. This wine should be a staple during the coming barbecue season.
