Second Crossing, which now has become 2nd Crossing on the wine labels, is the value label from Twisted Tree Vineyards & Winery in Osoyoos. Currently, the winery has released an excellent $16 Sauvignon Blanc, a solid $15 Merlot and this very interesting red blend.
This is the first wine from Twisted Tree that incorporates its Tannat grapes. Tannat is a bold red French variety identified these days with the wines of Uruguay. Twisted Tree was the first Okanagan winery to plant the variety and shortly will release its first Tannat varietal.
Winemaker Chris Tolley has found that it is great in blends, especially with Cabernet Sauvignon, as this wine shows. The wine is delicious and easy to drink, with notes of vanilla, spice, plums and chocolate. The soft, ripe tannins give it a full and fleshy weight on the palate. This is a limited production wine, so you should stock up if you see it at a local wine store.
