This is one of the first wines released from the 2009 vintage. If this is an example of what the vintage quality is, we are in store for a lot of good wine. This is the most popular white from Blasted Church. It is a remarkably complex blend of eight varietals, showing the art of blending at its best. I would not want to compete in a Rubik’s Cube contest with winemaker Richard Kanazawa after considering the variables in this blend.
This aromatic wine begins with herbal, citrus and apple aromas. On the palate, there are layers of fruit flavours – melons, apples, apricots and citrus fruits. The barely perceptible natural sugar, superbly balanced with acidity, lifts both the fruity flavours and the aromas. Lively and fresh, the wine has a crisp, spicy finish. Each glass tastes like more.
This is also the first wine from Blasted Church featuring its new labels. The labels are more daring than previously but still tell the story of Hartley Hatfield’s unconventional method of taking apart an old church with the aid of dynamite.
