Camelot Vineyards is a new winery in East Kelowna operated by Robert Young and Denise Brass, two Air Canada flight attendants who have converted a former orchard into a fine vineyard. Because their day jobs usually take them overseas at least once a week, they retained the winemaking services of Ann Sperling, a Kelowna native who has emerged as one of Canada’s star winemakers.
It shows in this barrel-fermented Chardonnay. The wine begins with inviting aromas of citrus. On the palate, there are flavours of peaches and grapefruit, subtly framed by oak. The barrel fermentation has added a lightly smoky note to the complex finish. This is a tasty debut Chardonnay from a promising new winery.
