Since opening in 2005 on the Naramata Bench, Van Westen Vineyards has established itself as a winery to watch, with a tight focus on varieties or brands that begin with the letter V. As in Voluptuous (a red blend) or Vivacious (a white blend, mostly Pinot Blanc). It is an absolute godsend to winemaker Rob Van Westen that he also grows Viognier, a wonderful Rhone white that yields exciting wines in several British Columbia vineyards.
It would be hard to find a better example than this Viognier. With a light golden tinge to the hue, this wine is lovely just to look at. The offers aromas of peaches and melons. There are layered flavours of citron, pear, pineapple and honey, all wound around a good mineral backbone. Polished and elegant, this wine delivers a big bowl of fruit and a dry finish. Order this satisfying wine directly from the winery or look for it on restaurant wine lists. 91 |
