Rosé wines are surging in popularity and this wine is an illustration of why. It is full of flavour but dry, making it a good food wine. When warm weather ever arrives, this is an excellent candidate to go with summer meals.
Dunham & Froese is a winery that opened its tasting room about 18 months ago. It is based at Covert Farms, an historic farm a few miles north of Oliver. The partners include Gene Covert, the grandson of the man who founded the farm about 50 years ago. It was once a major grape producer but pulled out most of the vines in 1988. Gene Covert, who is taking the farm in an organic direction, has re-established vineyards.
One of the other partners is winemaker Kirby Froese (there are four partners including their spouses) who has made wine at several Okanagan wineries. This wine is made in the style of European rosés – full-bodied and dry with as much alcohol as a table wine and with an attractive hue. The aromas and flavours of strawberries are seductive. The wine is refreshing and satisfying. This is not a wimpy pink wine. 88
